Disneyland Live Cam, Anaheim, California
Live Disneyland webcam on the Matterhorn and the fireworks, Anaheim, California, USA.
Snow never melts on the 147-foot peak that fills most of this frame. The Disneyland live cam watches the Matterhorn from the roof of the Howard Johnson Anaheim Hotel, on Harbor Boulevard just east of Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, and it streams the mountain and the sky above Fantasyland around the clock. It is one of the California webcams on the site.
What the HoJo MatterCam shows by day
Disney fans call this feed the HoJo MatterCam. Most of the time it points at the Matterhorn Bobsleds, the attraction on the side of the park closest to the hotel, but the operators sometimes turn it toward other tall landmarks, including Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout in Disney California Adventure.
From this distance the Disneyland webcam is about shapes rather than details. You will not pick out a churro cart or a face in the line, but the mountain, the sky behind it and the lights after dark come through clearly, which is what most people open it for.
The Matterhorn opened on June 14, 1959, as the first thrill ride added to Disneyland. It was built at roughly 1/100 the size of the Swiss original and uses forced perspective to look taller, and the official Disneyland page for Matterhorn Bobsleds still lists it among the park’s best-known rides. Its cylindrical rails and urethane wheels later became the standard for roller coasters everywhere.
The ride was inspired by the Disney film Third Man on the Mountain, and the peak is wood and steel under a plaster skin laid over metal mesh. An ice cavern and the Abominable Snowman were added inside the mountain in 1978, together with tandem bobsleds that greatly raised the number of riders per hour. Until 1994, the Skyway gondolas also passed straight through it, which explains the two openings you can still spot in old photos of the peak.
The Matterhorn was not the only arrival of 1959. The Disneyland Monorail opened in Tomorrowland the same year as the first daily-operating monorail in the Western Hemisphere, on a route of 2.5 miles, so the two rides that define this corner of the park are almost exactly the same age.
When the camera swings toward Disney California Adventure, the tower in view is Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout. It opened in May 2017 inside the 183-foot building that had housed The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and is the easiest landmark to recognize on the feed when the Matterhorn is out of shot.
That park opened next door in February 2001, on land that had been the original Disneyland parking lot, and the two parks now share the same entrance plaza. From the hotel roof, both parks lie to the west, so the Disneyland webcam can cover either one without leaving Harbor Boulevard.
Disneyland fireworks on the live stream
After sunset the feed changes character. Disneyland has rotated its fireworks shows since 2009, and under the City of Anaheim permit they must finish by 10 p.m., with exceptions for nights such as July 4 and New Year’s Eve. That makes the half hour before 10 p.m. the most watched part of the Disneyland live stream.
Sleeping Beauty Castle sits outside this frame, so the effects fired close to the castle stay hidden. What reaches the camera are the higher shells bursting over the park, with the lit Matterhorn in the foreground, a view you will not get from Main Street. Show nights change through the year, so check the park calendar before waiting up.
Is Disneyland crowded today?
Searches for a Disneyland crowd tracker or live wait times end up here often, but a rooftop camera cannot count people. For waits, the official Disneyland app is the reliable source; the feed is better for checking the sky, the light and whether the fireworks are on.
The camera has also shown the opposite. In March 2020, when Disneyland closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, the HoJo feed was one of the few ways to see the empty park, and fans kept it open on their screens for weeks.
The crowds are real, though. Disneyland opened on July 17, 1955, on part of a 160-acre site bought in 1953, and the park now covers more than 100 acres. It welcomed 17.33 million visitors in 2024, the second highest attendance of any amusement park in the world that year.
Like the other live webcams from around the world on the site, this one is free to watch with no sign-up.
If the park is quiet, the Huntington Beach Pier live cam is less than an hour’s drive away and shows the Orange County coast instead.
The best moment on the Disneyland live cam is a clear night a few minutes before the scheduled fireworks, when the Matterhorn is lit and the first shells start climbing over Fantasyland.
