Haad Rin Beach Live Cam, Koh Phangan, Thailand
Live Haad Rin webcam from the House of Sanskara, Koh Phangan, Surat Thani, Thailand.
Up to 30,000 people pack Haad Rin Nok on the night of a Full Moon Party, and for the rest of the month the same sand on the southeastern tip of Koh Phangan goes back to swimmers and sunbathers. The Haad Rin beach live cam streams from the House of Sanskara, a beachfront lodge at 134 Moo 6, Haad Rin, in Ban Tai, Surat Thani province, Thailand. It sits with the other Surat Thani webcams on the site.
What the Haad Rin live stream shows
Haad Rin is really two beaches on a narrow strip of land, only a few hundred meters apart. Haad Rin Nok, or Sunrise Beach, faces east and hosts the party. Haad Rin Nai, or Sunset Beach, faces west and is the quieter side, with calmer water for swimming during the day and far less foot traffic outside party nights.
The lodge’s bungalows stand on the sand, about 1,000 feet from the center of Haad Rin, so the camera stays low and close to the water rather than looking down from a hillside. That makes this Koh Phangan webcam good for the simple questions: is the sea calm, is the beach busy, and is the light turning toward sunset or sunrise.
The same view works for checking a morning swim and for watching the beach fill up on a party evening, and in high season the difference between the two can be a few thousand people in a few hours.
Full Moon Party nights on Haad Rin Nok
The Full Moon Party has been held on Haad Rin Nok every month since the late 1980s. Between 10,000 and 30,000 people come for each one, depending on the season, with crowds above 30,000 on the peak nights of January and February. Entry costs 200 baht at the beach. Party nights are set by the lunar calendar rather than by the weekend, so the date moves every month, and the island fills up in the days before each one as visitors arrive by boat from Samui and the mainland.
The party runs from sunset, around 7 p.m., until sunrise. The fire shows usually start around 9 p.m., and the busiest stretch comes between about 10 p.m. and 2 a.m., which is when the Haad Rin live stream gets its biggest audience.
At one party in 2023, the Bangkok Post counted about 20,000 tourists on a beach almost one kilometer long. Police, immigration officers and local officials were deployed from 8 p.m., with the Tourist Police Bureau saying the aim was to keep illegal drugs out of the venue, and officials expected the four-day holiday around that party to bring tens of millions of baht to the island.
Getting to Haad Rin from Koh Samui and Surat Thani
Koh Phangan sits in the Gulf of Thailand between the larger Koh Samui to the south and the smaller Koh Tao to the north, with Thong Sala as its main town. Around 458,000 visitors a year come to the island, according to 2018 figures, and almost all of them arrive by sea: plans for an airport have been under discussion since 2012 without opening.
Haad Rin belongs to the Koh Phangan district, which also takes in Koh Tao and a few smaller islands across 148 square kilometers and became a full district on April 12, 1977. Growth has a cost on an island this size: residents and visitors produce about 7,300 tonnes of solid waste a year, and coral bleaching and untreated wastewater are ongoing concerns, so taking rubbish off the beach after a party night matters more here than it might elsewhere.
Getting here takes some planning. Speedboats cross from Big Buddha Pier on Koh Samui in 30 to 45 minutes, and the Lomprayah catamaran from Surat Thani on the mainland takes about 2 hours and 45 minutes to Thong Sala pier, on the west coast of the island.
From Thong Sala, songthaews, the shared pickup taxis of the islands, run south to Haad Rin in 30 to 40 minutes. On party nights they fill up fast, so many visitors book a room in Haad Rin itself and walk to the beach.
On Samui, the Lamai Beach live cam shows the neighboring island across the water.
The island has a long history of visitors. King Chulalongkorn, Rama V, came to Koh Phangan 14 times during his reign, long before the backpackers, and Alex Garland’s 1996 novel The Beach put the island on the map for a new generation of travelers. Like all the live cams worldwide on the site, the Haad Rin live stream is free to open, day or night.
The busiest weeks on the Haad Rin beach live cam come in January and February, when the full moon falls in high season and the beach stays full from sunset until well after dawn.
