Toronto CN Tower Live Cam
Live Webcam Toronto CN Tower, Ontario, Canada.
Whatever color the CN Tower is wearing tonight, the band of LEDs around its pod is the first thing you notice on this stream. The CN Tower live cam watches the tower from beside the Gardiner Expressway at the Spadina Avenue exit, in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada, so the elevated lanes of the expressway share the picture with the city’s best-known landmark. It is the skyline view among our Toronto live cams, and the quickest way to get a CN Tower live view today without checking a forecast or a ticket queue.
What the CN Tower webcam shows from the Spadina exit
The tower dominates the skyline from this angle. At 553.3 m (1,815 ft) it was the world’s tallest free-standing structure from 1975 until 2007, when the Burj Khalifa passed it, and it still stands well above every condo tower around it. The name comes from Canadian National, the railway company that built it on the former Railway Lands; construction began on February 6, 1973, and the tower opened to the public on June 26, 1976.
Look for the pod about two-thirds of the way up. That ring holds the observation levels at 342 and 346 m, including the Glass Floor added in 1994, and the 360 Restaurant at about 351 m, which turns a full circle every 72 minutes. The thin ledge around its outside is EdgeWalk, opened on August 1, 2011, where visitors in harnesses lean out over the city at 356 m. Higher still, the small second pod is The Top, at 446.5 m, the deck long known as the SkyPod.
Before buying a ticket, use the CN Tower cam as a cloud check. When the pod disappears into low cloud on the feed, the view from the 346 m level will be mostly white as well; when the pod stands out sharp against the sky, it is a good day to go up.
At the base of the tower sit the Rogers Centre, home of the Blue Jays and opened as SkyDome in 1989, and Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada, opened in 2013. For a quieter side of the city, the High Park Village cam watches a neighborhood street in the west end.
Gardiner Expressway traffic at Spadina
The road in the foreground is the Gardiner Expressway, an 18 km highway between Highway 427 and the Don Valley Parkway, named after Frederick G. Gardiner, the first chair of Metropolitan Toronto. East of Dufferin Street it rides above the ground for 6.8 km, passing just south of the CN Tower and the Rogers Centre, with Lake Shore Boulevard running underneath. The expressway is older than the tower: its first section opened in August 1958 and its last in July 1966, a decade before the tower welcomed its first visitors.
The Spadina stretch is one of its busiest. Counts from 2008 recorded about 62,000 eastbound vehicles on an average weekday between Spadina and York Street, so this Toronto webcam doubles as a traffic cam for the downtown core: within seconds you can see whether the eastbound lanes are moving or stacked back toward the Spadina ramp. It is one of several traffic cams on the site.
Expect cones in the picture over the next few years. Toronto’s rehabilitation plan for the elevated Gardiner schedules the section from Grand Magazine Street to York Street, which includes the Spadina exit, for 2026 to 2028, while the stretch from Strachan Avenue to Dufferin Street runs on two lanes each way during its own 2024 to 2026 repairs.
CN Tower lights tonight: what the colors mean
The tower lights up every evening, and the colors are rarely random. The current system went in during June 2007 with 1,330 LED fixtures that can produce about 16.7 million colors, starting at sunset with a red-and-white program that repeats at the top of every hour. On many nights the tower switches to the colors of a cause or a charity, and when a Toronto team reaches the playoffs it takes on the team’s colors. The CN Tower publishes its lighting schedule a few weeks ahead, which is the easiest way to know what tonight’s colors mean before the live stream shows them.
The tower stands at 290 Bremner Boulevard, a short walk from Union Station, draws more than two million visitors a year and is owned by Canada Lands Company, a federal Crown corporation.
The best moment on the CN Tower live cam is the first top-of-the-hour light show after sunset, when the sky is still blue behind the pod and the headlights on the Gardiner start streaming toward downtown. For other cities lighting up at the same hour, our live webcams around the world are one click away.
