The live cam is from Beursplein, a square in the center of Amsterdam, between Damrak and Beursstraat. The stock exchange (Beursplein 5), the Beurs van Berlage, and the Bijenkorf are located on the square. Beursplein is regularly used for various events, such as the annual art market Klein Montmartre (a reference to the artists’ quarter of Montmartre in Paris), political demonstrations focused on the financial world, and musical performances.
The entrance to the Bijenkorf parking garage is on the square. In 2018, to replace the above-ground bicycle parking, an underground parking facility for 1,700 bicycles was constructed. The project cost approximately ten million euros. After the construction, the square was redecorated with new trees and paving based on the original 1903 design. The fountains and monumental lamp posts were restored to their original state.
